Girardi says length of Rodriguez's grievance hearing complicates Yankees' off-season planning

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Yankees manager Joe Girardi says the length of Alex Rodriguez's grievance hearing complicates the team's off-season planning.

The players' association is trying to overturn a 211-game suspension given to the third baseman last August for alleged violations of baseball's drug program and labour contract.

Girardi said Thursday that if a decision isn't made soon, the team will have to make backup third base plans in case Rodriguez isn't available.

The hearing before an arbitrator is to resume Nov. 18.
