CALGARY - A sentencing hearing has been set for next year for a Calgary woman who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of her newborn boy.
Shelby Herchak was originally charged with second-degree murder in the death of her 26-day-old son Daniel.
The infant died 10 hours after being rushed by paramedics to the Alberta Children's Hospital on Aug. 9, 2010.
Daniel suffered blunt-force head trauma, which an autopsy indicated was not accidental.
Court heard the force of the trauma was similar to what would be seen in a motor vehicle collision or a fall from a height of three metres.
Neither the Crown nor Herchak's lawyer have indicated what they will seek in terms of sentencing, but a psychological report was ordered by the judge.
The hearing is scheduled for Feb. 27.
