A call came in on Friday at 2:20 p.m. reporting that a 44-year-old man had barricaded himself inside a house on Mario Street in the town about 50 kilometres outside Montreal. Local police responded and called in backup from the Sûreté du Québec.
The man was wanted by Montreal police for his role in an armed-assault case that took place in September in which he allegedly beat his wife so badly she needed to be hospitalized.
Because he is considered dangerous, police established a wide security perimeter and evacuated nearby homes.
The standoff ended around 4 a.m. Saturday when members of a tactical police unit forced their way into the house. The man surrendered without resistance.
