Ah, the beloved Chinook.

There is little else more anticipated by Albertans during the frosty and frigid winter months than a blast of warm air, blowing over the southern portion of the province as winds make their way down the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies.

It's a bragging point for Calgarians, who often taunt their Edmonton counterparts when the warm coastal winds eventually find their way to the city. Due to its distance from the mountains, Edmonton rarely experiences Chinook winds, much to the chagrin of the people who call it home.

This unique weather phenomenon is welcomed by almost everyone, as the area gets a brief chance to thaw and people can ditch the parkas and toques for a day or two and remember what it's like to have feeling in their fingers and toes.
