Rob Ford's security detail got very physical with the media Thursday as the Toronto mayor left his office. Ford and his wife, Renata Ford, were departing City Hall following a press conference at which the mayor apologized for making graphic remarks regarding unproven allegations that he partied with a prostitute and directed inappropriate sexual remarks at a staffer and City Hall security guard.
YouTube videos and Vine clips posted on social media show Ford's security violently shoving members of the press to make way for the mayor and his wife. The couple left Ford's office through a throng of journalists when they could have used another exit. Many online were quick to speculate that the move was intended to show that Renata is standing by her husband's side amid the allegations of sexual impropriety. The allegations were made by Ford aides in conversations with police and were released in unredacted versions of court documents Wednesday.
Ford denied those allegations Thursday, but with language that led him to apologize soon after.
"The last thing was Olivia Gondek ... it says that I want to eat her pussy. I've never said that in my life to her. I would never do that," he said. "I'm happily married and I've got more than enough to eat at home."
CBC's Steven D'Souza posted a Vine of the Fords' exit which spread quickly on social media.
Now Magazine's Jonathan Goldsbie tweeted that he has heard some members of the media may pursue charges in connection with the incident,
Ford got physical with photographers outside his home last month on the same day Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair announced his force is in possession of video footage consistent with reports in the media of a tape showing the mayor smoking what appears to be crack cocaine.
Things sure have changed since the mayor's last heavily-publicized encounter with a camera person in April. Remember when the mayor was best-known internationally for funny GIFs? The good old days are gone.
