New NDP Leader Will Win Next B.C. Election, Dix Vows

Outgoing B.C. NDP leader Adrian Dix received several standing ovations during a speech to the party in Vancouver Saturday, vowing a new leader can and will win the next provincial election.

Six months after their stunning election loss, about 800 NDP delegates from across the province have gathered this weekend for the party's 43rd convention.

On Saturday, a fiesty Dix detailed a litany of missteps and scandals by the B.C. Liberals and said he would give that party a "V for vapid."

Dix described this as a tough time for the NDP, and said one of the biggest challenges facing the party is overcoming cynicism.

Dix announced that he would be stepping down as party leader in September, but will remain in his leadership role until a new leader is chosen in 2014.

The NDP is expected to set a date for a leadership election this weekend.
