Fifty years ago in Texas, U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. It was arguably one of the most influential events of the last few decades.
Earlier this week we asked HuffPost Canada readers where they were during the assassination. We got many, many responses on our Facebook page.

"I was working as Assistant Machinist for Canadian Stackpole Ltd., in New Toronto. The whole plant shut down as it was an American company. No one spoke, and all gathered around the radio. 200 people quiet as a mouse. I'll never forget it. Very sad moment." — Terry Hill
"I was 19 and had just started my first job as a secretary at Alcan in Place Ville Marie, Montreal. I can remember going to Windsor Station to get the commuter train home and in the display window there was a huge black and white portrait of JFK draped in black - the entire thing was surreal and everyone on the train was reading the newspaper with the news all over it. Also remember watching TV all weekend with my parents and seeing Oswald being shot in real time. Everyone was in shock." — Patricia Murphy
"Standing in the doorway of the 3rd grade doorway. The principal came rushing out of her office proclaiming "the president has been shot" It was recess, they rang the bell, called everyone in from the play yard and sent us all home. This was in Ontario, Canada! We were all stunned. I went home to see my parents, brother, aunt and uncle crying in front of the tv. It was my brother's 10th birthday. The house was decorated for a party. It was not a festive evening!" — Mary Newland
