Two killed as deadly weekend pushes 2013 traffic deaths in Richmond to seven

RICHMOND, B.C. - A 62-year-old pedestrian has been killed in Richmond, B.C., the second fatal accident in that suburban Vancouver city in two days.

The woman died late Sunday afternoon after being hit in a marked crosswalk in central Richmond.

Mounties say the driver remained at the scene and an investigation is continuing.

The incident came less than 24 hours after the lone 76-year-old driver of one car died and the 36-year-old driver of a second car was slightly hurt when their two vehicles rammed at a busy intersection in north Richmond.

Police say speed was a factor in the crash that happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday but no other details have been released.

The two weekend deaths were the sixth and seventh traffic-related fatalities in Richmond in 2013.
