Grizzly Bear Eats Elk In Banff National Park (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

WATCH: Grizzly Feasts On Elk

A grizzly bear has been captured feasting on an elk in Banff National Park last week.

The large male bear, who was captured devouring a black bear earlier this year, is thought to be feeding on an elk that had fallen through the ice on Bow River. Parks Canada say they removed seven elk that had fallen through the ice and believe one went undetected.

Officials closed the area and decided not to remove the carcass as the grizzly had already claimed it as his.

Officially named Bear No. 122, and weighing between 600 and 700 pounds, the grizzly fed on the elk for an entire week and even covered it with spruce boughs to claim it.

"He even slept on it," say Parks Canada officials in the video's description posted on YouTube, adding that the bear is ready for the long cold winter.

The footage is a reminder for people to stay alert as some bears aren't hibernating yet, says Parks Canada.
