Mourners lighted candles and filled large boxes with donated toys to honour Riddick Servio, who died last Friday when both he and his mother were hit by a van.
One person said those attending hoped to take a little of the pain away from the Servio family.
Riddick's parents weren't there, but organizer Lindsey Matthews said it was the toddler's mother who requested that the event include toy donations to help low income families in the suburban Vancouver community.
Matthews says the vigil allowed the community to grieve, and to show support for the Servios.
More than $7,000 has also been raised to help the family deal with the tragedy. (CKNW, Global, News1130)
