Woman in hospital after incident on Vancouver trail

A woman was taken to hospital in Vancouver with undetermined injuries following what police are calling a "potential assault" on a walking trail in Marpole Friday morning.

The Vancouver Police Department isn't entirely sure what happened yet on the trail in Fraser River Park, which lies near Angus Drive between the Fraser River and West 75th Avenue. Vancouver police Const. Brian Montague said officers encountered difficulties communicating with the victim.

"There is a language barrier as the victim does not speak English," Const. Brian Montague said in an email to CBC News. "We have an officer attending to translate and determine what happened."

Montague said there may be witnesses in the area who may also be able to shed light on what happened.

"The motive for the attack is not clear at this time," Montague said Friday afternoon.
