Italy's Paris wins World Cup downhill at Lake Louise, Canada's Guay eighth

LAKE LOUISE, Alta. - Dominik Paris of Italy won the season-opening men's World Cup downhill Saturday.

Paris posted a winning time of one minute 49.90 seconds.

Austria's Klaus Kroell was second in 1:49.93 and Adrien Theaux of France was third in 1:50.01.

Erik Guay of Mont-Tremblant, Que., was the top Canadian in eighth.

The men race a super-G Sunday at Lake Louise.
