Fatal crashes claim North Bay, Brampton drivers

Provincial police are investigating two deadly weekend crashed on roads in northeastern Ontario.

On Highway 69 Sunday night, just west of Pointe au Baril, a vehicle passed a transport truck, spun out, and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

The driver that passed the transport, 39-year-old Paul Laitila from Brampton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The people in the oncoming vehicle, a 20-year-old man and 18-year-old woman, both from Pefferlaw, Ont., are reported to be in serious condition.

North Bay crash

On Highway 17 Sunday afternoon, a head-on crash occurred in East Ferris.

OPP said a westbound Honda crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming Pontiac.

Both drivers were taken to hospital.

The driver of the Pontiac, 64-year-old David Houston of North Bay, died of his injuries.

The other driver was airlifted to Toronto with life threatening injuries.
