Hamilton senator David Braley resigns

CBC News has learned Hamilton senator David Braley has resigned from the upper chamber. 

A written statement from Braley's office dated Nov. 30 advises the Governor General has been notified of his resignation effective that date.

The statement does not state a reason for his resignation.

He was appointed by prime minister Stephen Harper on May 20, 2010. He is 72 and could have served until age 75.

Braley is the owner of Orlick Industries, an auto parts manufacturer.

He has been a prominent supporter of the Canadian Football League and currently owns both the Toronto Argonauts and B.C Lions.
