This Hour Has 22 Minutes

Christmas this year is brought to you by Alberta.

Well, not really, but tonight's This Hour Has 22 Minutes holiday special does have a particularly Alberta flavour to it, what with Premier Alison Redford in her pajamas reading 'Twas The Night Before Alberta Christmas and Liberal leader Dr. Raj Sherman doing some mummering in oilsands central, Fort McMurray.

"'Twas the night before Christmas here in Lake Louise, I'd just cooked a 20-oz steak, just for me," reads Redford, while lounging on an armchair, wearing a red onesie pajama suit and her trademark pearls.

"The beers were all nestled in the snowbank outside. I turned on the game, Flames/Canucks, it was tied."

Meanwhile, Sherman, along with comedian Shaun Majumder, Fort McMurray Conservative MP Brian Jean and Melissa Blake, mayor of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, take the Newfoundland tradition of mummering to the place where one will find the largest concentration of Newfoundlanders outside of The Rock, Fort McMurray.

According to This Hour Has 22 Minutes “Mummering is a tradition which involves a group of friends or family who dress in disguise and visit homes in their area over the Christmas holidays. If the mummers are welcomed into a house, they often do a variety of informal performances that may include dance, music, jokes or recitations."

The hour-long special airs Tuesday night at 8 p.m. MST.
