Kirkland man dies in morning house fire

A man has died in hospital after a fire early this morning at a house in Kirkland, on Montreal's West Island.

Fire crews were called to the one-storey home on Marcel Meloche Street at around 4:15 a.m.

Montreal fire department spokesperson Benoît Fleury said firefighters found one person inside the home.

"He was carried out and transported to the hospital by Urgences-Santé in cardiac arrest," said Fleury.

Fleury said crews quickly put out the fire, and emergency workers attempted to resuscitate the man found inside the house.

"The man was found inside the house and was transported to hospital where his death was confirmed," said Const. Lynn Duncan with the Montreal police.

Duncan said the arson squad is investigating the fire. An autopsy will be performed on the body of the victim to determine the exact cause of death.
