Brian Burke spelled it out for the Calgary Flames media and those around the hockey world on Sept. 5: “I’m not the general manager of the Calgary Flames.”
But he soon could be, given the National Hockey League team showed the door Thursday to GM Jay Feaster and his assistant, John Weisbrod.
On that September day, Burke was introduced as the Flames’ president of hockey operations, a newly created position, but he has a long history in the NHL as a GM, most recently with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In a news release, a successor to Feaster was not announced.
