Alberta Freezing Rain: Warning Issued For Northern, Central Areas

Albertans looking for a break from the cold may be out of luck.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for various parts of northern and central Alberta.

The agency said freezing rain will develop on Saturday afternoon beginning in the Peace country and head east towards Edmonton by the evening. It will then move into the Lloydminster and Cold Lake regions later in the evening.

A wind warning has also been issued for parts of southern Alberta including Lethbridge, Crowsnest Pass and Pincher Creek. Winds of over 100km/h are expected.

A freezing rain warning has been issued for the following areas:

  • Bonnyville - St. Paul - Cold Lake - Lac La Biche
  • City of Edmonton - St. Albert - Sherwood Park
  • Drayton Valley - Devon - Rimbey - Pigeon Lake
  • Fort Saskatchewan - Vegreville - Redwater - Smoky Lake
  • Grande Prairie - Beaverlodge - Valleyview
  • Hinton - Grande Cache
  • Leduc - Camrose - Wetaskiwin - Tofield
  • Lloydminster - Wainwright - Vermilion - Provost
  • Peace River - Fairview - High Prairie - Manning
  • Slave Lake
  • Spruce Grove - Morinville - Mayerthorpe - Evansburg
  • Wabasca - Peerless Lake - Gift Lake - Cadotte Lake
  • Westlock - Barrhead - Athabasca
  • Whitecourt - Edson - Fox Creek - Swan Hills
