Six people seriously injured in South Shore collision

Six people were seriously hurt last night in a head-on collision near Saint-Mathias-sur-Richelieu, on Montreal's South Shore.

Richelieu-Saint-Laurent regional police said the accident happened at around 11 p.m. on Rivière-des-Hurons Road.

It appears the driver of a vehicle with five people on board lost control on a curve and hit another car coming from the opposite direction.

Two people are in critical condition.

Police said speed and alcohol were both factors.

They added that in the intense cold, tires also have less grip on the road.
