Penguins' Engelland to have hearing for hit on Abdelkader

Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Deryk Engelland will have in-person hearing Wednesday for a hit he delivered Saturday on Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader.

Engelland was assessed a match penalty on the play.

His hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety is scheduled for Wednesday.

Abdelkader and Engelland collided near the red line in the first period at Joe Louis Arena. Engelland's shoulder appeared to make contact with Abdelkader's chin.

The Detroit forward had to be helped from the ice with 29.3 seconds left in the period.
