Saskatchewan hands out fines for workplace violations over fall protection

REGINA - A Saskatchewan company and one person has pleaded guilty to not using proper fall protection systems.

101176473 Saskatchewan Ltd., operating as Big Hammer Construction, pleaded guilty to one count of failure to use a fall protection system at a work area where a worker may fall three metres or more.

The company was fined $840 in Saskatoon provincial court earlier this month.

One other charge against the company was withdrawn.

The charges stemmed from a routine inspection by an occupational health officer that took place on Nov. 1, 2012.

In an unrelated case, Mark Derbowka of Regina pleaded guilty to the same violation and was fined the same amount in Regina on Dec. 10.
