Matt Church, Jeopardy Contestant From Prince George, Wins $24,000

Prince George Student Wins On 'Jeopardy!'

Matt Church had a big win on "Jeopardy!" Monday night.

The 26-year-old Queen's School of Medicine student finished the show with $24,000 in his pocket, and is set to return as champion on the popular game show this evening for more, Global News reports.

Church, who says he plays the game often at home, applied to be a contestant through an online quiz last January alongside an estimated 250,000 people. He was among the 3,000 selected for an in-person quiz and interview before securing a desired spot.

UPDATE: Church won his second straight match this on Dec. 17, according to Global News, bringing his total earnings to $29,000.

"It's the thrill of a lifetime," he told the network.

The young medical student is well known in Prince George. He was the youngest-ever Citizen of the Year nominee, the youngest-ever Prince George Public Library Board trustee, and he also founded the library's Youth Advisory Board, The Prince George Citizen reported.

"Jeopardy!" airs again tonight at 7:30 p.m. PT on CHEK.
