4 fishermen rescued from life raft off Sable Island

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre with assistance from a fishing vessel has rescued four people from a life raft about 70 nautical miles east of Sable Island.

Capt. Peter Ryan, with JRCC, said the call for help came in around 4 a.m. Sunday.

The four crew of the F.V. Gentle Lady climbed into a life raft after running into trouble off the coast of Nova Scotia, said Ryan.

JRCC coordinated the rescue with another nearby fishing vessel, the Ocean Concord.

The rescued crew are all safe and are currently steaming towards Louisbourg aboard the Ocean Concord and will be transferred to a Canadian Coast Guard Vessel.

The rescue centre were about to send a Cormorant helicopter and a Hercules plane out to the site but those were cancelled, thanks to help form the Ocean Concord.
