The Biggest Winners And Losers In Canadian Business, 2013

What is it with international Canadian brands soaring and then fizzling?

Remember Nortel? It was one of the biggest companies in the world until it disappeared in a puff of lawsuits and criminal investigations. Remember BlackBerry? It's on its last legs now, by all accounts. And 2013 was also the year Lululemon morphed from a trendy, high-flying international brand into a wince-inducing embarrassment, at least for now.

But there were plenty of good-news stories in Canadian business this year as well, everything from the surprising resilience of Canada's housing markets to the prairie provinces' booming economies to that celebrated superstar of central banking, Mark Carney, taking a new gig at the Bank of England.
