Apartment block fire forces Surrey residents from homes

Around six people have been forced from their homes on Boxing Day, after a fire broke out in a small apartment complex in Surrey.

The fire occurred about 7:30 a.m. PT in the 8300 block of Scott Road. Fire crews reportedly have the flames under control.

Four people were trapped on a ledge outside the building and were rescued by Delta firefighters using a ladder.

Ken Clarke, who works at Scottsdale Bowling across the street, said at least 10 or 12 fire trucks from Delta and Surrey were on the scene.

"Several residents were out wandering round the streets just wrapped in blankets," Clarke told the CBC.

Clarke also said at least one unit suffered significant damage.
