Body of 43-year-old B.C. man found near Liard River

The body of a 43-year-old man was found in Lower Post, B.C. not far from his residence. Watson Lake, Yukon RCMP believe his snowmobile crashed into a snowbank.

The man was last seen leaving the New Year's Eve fireworks display in Lower Post on his snowmobile. Friends began looking for him after he didn't return home on Jan. 1, and reported him missing the next day after they still hadn't heard from him.

RCMP and community members immediately began a ground and aerial search for the man.

The man's body was found on Jan. 3 not far from his home in Lower Post. RCMP say it looks like he drove off the road, hit a snowbank and was thrown from his snowmobile over an embankment. His body was found near the Liard River, and RCMP said speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the crash.

Foul play is not suspected and the man's body is now with the B.C. Coroner Service.
