Quebec man charged with attempted murder in Hwy 401 incident

A Quebec man has been charged with attempted murder and attempting to disarm a police officer after an incident on the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near the Township of Puslinch early Wednesday morning.

The 33-year-old man appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph and remains in custody.

Police say at around 4:51 a.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a vehicle headed east in the westbound lanes of Highway 401. The vehicle was stopped, but tried to leave the scene and collided with a marked OPP cruiser.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but police say the driver had been involved in an incident prior to the collision which forced a female to be transported to hospital with serious injuries.
