Toronto woman charged in toddler's drowning death

A Toronto woman faces a manslaughter charge in connection with the drowning death of a toddler.

Police arrived at a condo near the intersection of Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West on July 4, 2013 and found a two-year-old girl without vital signs. She was later pronounced dead.

It is believed the toddler was left in a bathtub while under the care of a babysitter, police said at the time.

An investigation led to the Friday arrest of a 34-year-old Toronto woman, whom police have charged with manslaughter, said Const. Sarah Diamond in a statement.

The accused appeared in court on Saturday morning. No family members were present.

Her next court date is set for Tuesday.

Police ask anyone with additional information about the incident to call investigators at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
