Homeowner pins intruder who meant to visit a friend

A Barrie, Ont., couple awoke to find a young man entering their home on Sunday morning, an event police say occurred after a night of drinking.

Police say the couple heard “a bang” at their front door, at which point a 21-year-old Tottenham, Ont. man entered the Addison Trail residence.

The man walked up the second floor and was then pinned to the ground by the homeowner, who had told his wife to call police.

Police say the man who entered the home believed he had gone to a friend’s house.

The Tottenham man has been charged with mischief and with being unlawfully in a dwelling. He has been released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
