Canadian Screen Awards unveil nominees in film, TV, digital

Top Canadian films, television programming and digital media will take the spotlight today, as nominees are unveiled for the Canadian Screen Awards.

Actors David Sutcliffe, star of CBC-TV's Cracked, and Katheryn Winnick will reveal the contenders for the annual prize, administered by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television Arts.

Awarded for the first time in 2013, the fledgling, omnibus prize combines the previously separate Genie Awards (the Canadian honour for English- and French-language films) and Gemini Awards (Canada's prize for English- and French-language TV and digital programming).

This year's televised gala takes place March 9 at Toronto's Sony Centre for the Arts, with Canadian funnyman Martin Short returning as host. The show will be broadcast on CBC-TV.
