Police say there is still no sign of high-school teacher Jeffrey Boucher from Whitby, Ont., who was reported missing on Monday after failing to return from his usual morning run.
Sgt. Nancy van Rooy of Durham police updated the media on Wednesday afternoon about the investigation into the disappearance of Boucher. The sergeant said that police are still working through a number of leads, but investigators still do not know what happened to him.
Police said social media was abuzz with rumours about the missing father of two and teacher at Bowmanville High School.
But Sgt. van Rooy said there is no reason to investigate anything in regard to theft or missing money or to believe that Boucher is involved with anything criminal. She said it is possible Boucher "stepped away" voluntarily. If that is the case, she urged him to get in touch with police to let them know he is safe.
She also added that there is no "electronic footprint" for the missing 52-year-old — no hospital attendance or financial activity since he's gone missing.
Boucher is an avid runner who has gone on early-morning jogs before work almost every day for 20 years.
