Drunk man saved after driving onto Lac St-Louis

A man is suffering from hypothermia in hospital after driving his car into Lac St-Louis around 4:30 a.m. ET on Sunday.

Although he was able to call 911 at 4:45 a.m. after escaping his submerged car and getting up onto the ice, he was only found nearly two hours later — by a TV cameraman.

Police and other emergency workers had been unable to find him because the man was so drunk he couldn't tell them exactly where he was.

“He was lost. So we don’t know why he went on the lake. Maybe it was because he was drunk,” says Sgt. Ronald McGinnis of the SuretéduQuébec.

The man was found on Lac St-Louis somewhere between Pointe-Aux-Cascades and Île-Perrot.

“He was transported to hospital for hypothermia and we arrested him for drinking and driving,” McGinnis says.
