Explosion hits Pickering water treatment plant

Emergency crews are responding to an explosion at a waste water treatment plant in Pickering, Ont.

The explosion occurred after 10 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant on MacKay Road, about 40 kilometres east of Toronto.

Durham Regional Police said in a Twitter message that no one was hurt and that fire crews are on scene.

Squires Beach Road is closed to traffic as is McKay Road around the area of the explosion.
