The Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem is considered one of the most sacred and holy sites in Judaism.

But when Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited the spot on Tuesday, a Conservative MP nearby was apparently focused on how joining the PM's photo-op may improve his re-election chances.

The Globe and Mail's Campbell Clark reported Tuesday that York Centre MP Mark Adler attempted to convince the prime minister's aide, Jeremy Hunt, to let him join Harper's photo-op.

"Jeremy. Jeremy! Can I get in?" Adler reportedly asked.

After he was shot down by Hunt, Adler replied: "It's the re-election! This is the million-dollar shot."

Clark reports Adler was later allowed past a security barrier with Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver to have their pictures taken with Harper.

Adler, first elected in the long-time Liberal riding in 2011, has clearly been enjoying himself in Israel. He has been updating both his Twitter account and personal website with details of the trip.

According to Adler's site, York Centre has one of the largest Jewish populations of any riding in the country.

In an editorial published in the Jewish Tribune last May, Adler wrote that he is "the only Member of Parliament who is also the child of a Holocaust survivor."

Adler's exuberance to get in the photo has already sparked plenty of chatter on Twitter.
