Edmontonians are taking to social media to showcase their love for the province's capital after the city has been recognized for its actions on climate change solutions.

Edmonton is one of 34 finalists in this year's Earth Hour City Challenge, which recognizes cities making a sincere commitment to sustainability.

Residents were quick to respond to the call for votes to support the city's nomination, which can include posting videos or pictures on Twitter and Instagram with the hasthtag #WeLoveEdmonton.

The city's young mayor (obviously) made the list of things to love about Edmonton.

And so did the Oilers.

North Vancouver and Surrey are the only two other Canadians cities to make the list that also includes Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City, Seoul and Chicago.

The City's website says it was selected for its award-winning The Way We Green plan, which uses "community-centric commitments and publicly engaging actions to achieve a carbon neutral future."

In all, 163 cities were considered before narrowing down the field.

Voting for the challenge ends on March 20 and a winner will be announced on March 27 in Vancouver.
