LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - A southern Alberta teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting two young boys.
Lethbridge police say a nine-year old boy was assaulted during the summer of 2013 and another boy was assaulted by the same man multiple times between June 2008 and July 2012.
Police say the second boy met the man in 2005 when he was nine years old.
Jamey Byran Kristian, who is 37, is charged with two counts each of sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation and one count of invitation to sexual touching.
He appeared in court Friday and will be back on Monday.
An official with Westwind School Division has confirmed Kristian has worked as a teacher for the division for the past five years.
Supt. Ken Sommerfeldt wouldn't comment on Kristian's current employment situation, but says when an employee is facing charges such as these, the division does its own investigation and the person does not have contact with students pending the outcome of the legal process.
