Young children in Alberta will now be able to receive their first, or second flu shot.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) said on Monday that it has obtained additional doses of the influenza vaccine and are offering it to children under the age of nine.
Children who turned six months of age on or after Dec. 1, or who will do so before March 31, are eligible for the shot. The vaccination is also available to children under the age of nine who need two shots be fully immunized.
Due to shortages, vaccinations are no longer available to any other Albertans.
The province ran out of the flu vaccine earlier this month after a surge in demand for the shot.
Nearly $8 million have been spent on the flu shots, and almost one million Albertans - about one in four - have been immunized.
