Drake may have landed 2013's seventh best-selling album in the U.S. with "Nothing Was The Same," and made plenty of critics' year-end lists, including ours, but that didn't help him come Grammy night.
Nope, the "saddest boy in all of Canada" will have to stay that way after the Grammy voters snubbed Drake in the major categories (best song, record and album) and then fell victim to the Macklemore sweep, losing in best rap album ("NWTS"), best rap performance ("Started from the Bottom") and best rap song ("Started from the Bottom" and "Fucking Problems"). He even lost as a guest on Kendrick Lamar's "Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City", which was nominated for best album.
That said, he did pick up best rap album last year for "Take Care."
In an interview with Canadian Press, Drake seemed blase about the whole thing.
"To be recognized in any capacity for the music that we make is great, (but) I don't think the Grammys make or break any artist," he said. "I don't think anybody should live or die by the Grammys — that's my opinion. I think it's a great organization and obviously (has a) deep-rooted history in music, but at the same time, if I go home with no Grammys I still feel great about what we did. "I think anybody should feel that way."
And he acted blase, too, flying to L.A. to hit up Grammy parties and hang out with Rihanna, but skipping the ceremony itself.
Other Canadians nominated included Michael Buble and Jennifer Gasoi who won for traditional pop and children's music, Robin Thicke who lost two nods and pianist Chilly Gonzales who won by appearing on Daft Punk's album of the year winner, "Random Access Memories."
