They may be laughable to anyone suffering from the polar vortex out east, but Metro Vancouver is set to see temperatures so cold this week that they may force people inside.
The region's temperature is forecast to dip as low as -10 degrees Celsius on Friday night as an Arctic ridge of high pressure strengthens over B.C.'s Interior, driving cold air out through coastal passes, Environment Canada reported.
Areas exposed to outflow winds from this system will see wind chill approaching minus-20 degrees Celsius.
Vancouver is also expected to see some snow on Sunday.
The weather could make for some icy streets, but it may also create ideal conditions for spectacular, icy photos like the ones that social media users captured when the temperature dropped this low in December 2013.
