Texas low means Toronto snow tonight

A low-pressure system moving north from the southern U.S. is expected to bring between five and 10 centimetres of new snow to the Toronto area tonight.

A special weather statement from Environment Canada says snow will arrive in southwestern Ontario on Tuesday evening and reach the GTA later Tuesday and continue into Wednesday.

Snowfall amounts in the GTA are between five and 10 centimetres, which CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland said could make for a tricky morning commute on Wednesday.

"By Wednesday morning expect fresh snow on the ground and messy roads just in time for that busy morning commute," said Scotland.

Scotland said the snow is expected to taper off by mid-afternoon on Wednesday.

Areas south of Toronto, including Hamilton and the Niagara Peninsula could see up to 15 cm of snow.
