Duncan House Can Be Yours For $1, But You Have To Move It (PHOTOS)

Another $1 Property Giveaway!

Why does it seem like people are just giving away B.C. real estate these days?

Just last month, two heritage homes near Boston Bar were put up for $1 each. Then a 122-year-old property in Vernon went on the market for the same price.

Now a Vancouver Island developer is jumping in on the act, offering a five-bedroom, 1940s-era home in Duncan for a loonie.

Duncan, B.C. House On Sale For $1

Alan Jackson wants to save the home (it would cost him $15,000 to destroy it), but he needs it out of the way so that he can start building an eight-unit rental development on the property in May, The Times Colonist reported.

"It would be an absolute shame not to recycle this house ... It could live on for the next 100 years," he told the newspaper.

Jackson put the house, which was once used as a group home, up on UsedCowichan.com in late January and it has since drawn as many as 60 inquiries.

"The home has had expensive upgrades such as a newer roof, kitchen and water heater. Main floor bathroom has also been upgraded and the original hardwood floors are hiding below the carpet," the posting reads.

Whoever buys the home will have to move it within 90 days and Jackson estimates the cost of moving at about $25,000 to $30,000, plus new foundation wherever it lands. He won't sell to anyone who doesn't have a place to put it.

In other words, you could own a historic Island home for the price of a down payment on a condo in Vancouver. So what's stopping you?
