Newfoundland and Labrador addressing information request tardiness: commissioner

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The information and privacy commissioner for Newfoundland and Labrador says access-to-information requests are now being addressed in a timely manner, a year after he flagged them as being tardy.

Ed Ring said in January 2013 that the number of complaints he received about public bodies failing to disclose information in a timely manner had reached an all-time high.

But Ring now says the government has taken quick action to emphasize the importance of meeting timelines for requests.

He says he hasn't received any complaints about late responses since expressing his concerns.
