Construction on Edmonton's new downtown arena is set to begin next month, and judging by new hi-res photos released this week, it's going to be a beautiful building when complete.

Fourteen artist renderings highlight some of the major features of Rogers Place, including an airy media centre, spacious concourse and large outdoor plaza.

"We are embarking together on a great project. In the best spirit of Edmonton and all of oil country, I couldn't be more excited or more proud of our city," billionaire owner of the Edmonton Oilers, Daryl Katz, told reporters Tuesday.

According to the Calgary Sun, the downtown arena is on budget at $480 million and is expected to be finished for the start of the 2016 hockey season.
