'Angry Birds' Movie To Be Made In Vancouver

'Angry Birds' Movie Lands In Canada

They may be bad tempered, but the "Angry Birds" are being welcomed with open arms to Vancouver as the movie version of the popular computer game heads into production.

Rovio Entertainment, makers of the game, announced Friday that Vancouver-based Sony Pictures Imageworks would be the primary animation house for the animated feature-length movie.

"After searching the world to find the best animation facility, we felt that the talent at Sony Pictures Imageworks was unparalleled," executives at Rovio said in a statement.

The B.C. Government pushed out the press release, stating that the Ministry of International Trade had facilitated the partnership.

"Through the assistance of ministry staff and support from the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training, this project has found a competitive advantage in an environment that supports business growth in innovative knowledge industries such as digital media." the release states.

Premier Christy Clark welcomed the news: "'Angry Birds' is a worldwide phenomenon, and its creators want its movie adaptation done right," she said in the press release. "And to do it right, Rovio and Sony Pictures Imageworks have shown their faith in Vancouver — and that will lead to more opportunities and more jobs."
