Canada has won a silver in the 3000m short-track relay.

Korea won gold and China, who had initially taken silver, was disqualified, Canada had initially won a bronze medal while fourth-place Italy had crashed out of the race and will take the third spot.

Canada's team of Marie-Eve Drolet, Jessica Hewitt, Valerie Maltais and Marianne St-Gelais was well-back in third place while Korea and China fought for the top spot in the race. Korea's skater made a nifty pass in the last lap to beat out the Chinese. China was later disqualified because its skaters failed to clear the track after its exchanges.

The race was a balm to a team that's suffered a number of disappointing falls and performances. Earlier in the Games, the men failed to qualify in the short-track relay. Charles Hamelin, who won a gold in the 1500m, crashed in the 1000m and 500m distances.

The Canadian women had taken a silver medal in this race in 2010.
