Dr. Lamont Sweet to retire as P.E.I.'s deputy chief public health officer

CHARLOTTETOWN - P.E.I.'s health minister is extending his gratitude to the province's deputy chief public health officer for more than two decades of service.

Doug Currie says Dr. Lamont Sweet has been instrumental in developing the province's public health programs.

Sweet is set to retire this month.

He served as the province's chief public health officer for 17 years until Dr. Heather Morrison was appointed to the position in 2007 and Sweet took on the role of deputy.

The provincial government says Dr. David Sabapathy, a P.E.I. native living in Calgary, has accepted the position of deputy chief public health officer.
