Upon being approached to create a "lengthy" playlist for a "considerable road trip" I balked initially, wondering how I could ever choose 80 faves. Then I remembered that I make playlists all the time…constantly…I never leave the house in my car without about 100 playlists at my immediate disposal, via the iPods.

So I "reviewed" some of my numerous playlists that live in the Mac and picked and chose some of the cuts that had five stars beside them. I'll be doing a satellite radio show before too long, so this sort of thing is not entirely foreign to me.

Regarding the Guess Who songs and my own stuff. I was told to choose a rare few things that I wrote and sang, to include my perspective as a recording artist turned deejay.

Most of the tunes listed here are fairly mainstream. It's not my goal to suggest strange and perhaps unenjoyable tracks to any large audience.

Rather, these 80 cuts are things that I've listened to countless times.

If the names of some of these tracks are unfamiliar to many of you, then you might enjoy hearing artists like Birds of Tokyo or Charlotte Sometimes or the Finn Brothers for the first time. Every single track listed here is on this list for one or more substantial reasons. Many I chose purely for the vocal performance…after all, I'm a singer…singers really enjoy other singers…well, I do, at any rate.

After perusing this list once more, I realize that a music junkie such as myself is "cramped" by only being allowed 80 choices. But I hope you enjoy the first 80 anyhow. It won't be the last playlist ever posted…
