Durham Police investigating region's first homicide of 2014

Durham police are investigating the region's first homicide of the year following the death of a 22-year-old man.

Officers from the Durham Regional Police Service were called to Ajax, Ont., at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after there were reports of gunshots near the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and Kings Crescent.

Shabir Niazi, 22, was found dead inside the garage of a home on Roosevelt Avenue.

After conducting an autopsy, a coroner classified the death as a homicide — the first in the Durham region in 2014.
