Biden stepping up role in promoting Obama health care law as enrolment period nears end

WASHINGTON - Vice-President Joe Biden is stepping up his role in promoting enrolment in new health care exchanges as the end of the open-enrolment period nears.

The vice-president's office says Biden will hold a number of conference calls this week to reach out to groups that are spreading the word about the health care law. Those groups include Latinos, African-Americans, women and young Americans.

Biden trumpeted the health care overhaul this week on ABC's "The View." On the show, the vice-president urged mothers to encourage their children to sign up for coverage.

Biden has also promoted the law during visits to Florida and Minnesota.

The six-month enrolment period ends March 31. The Obama administration needs millions of people to sign up to keep premiums low for everyone.
