Surgeries cancelled over sterilization issue at Regina hospital

REGINA - Officials with the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region say problems with sterilizing equipment have forced the cancellation of 16 surgeries at the city's Pasqua Hospital.

Spokeswoman Val Hunko says the problem was detected by staff who were conducting quality control tests.

Hunko says the cause of the sterilization issue is being investigated and the expectation is that it will be corrected within a day.

She says the health region knows postponing surgeries on short notice can be inconvenient for patients but adds the top priority is safe patient care.
